Jan Schwartz
Jan Schwartz has a B.A. from Rutgers University/Douglas College and has completed graduate level work at the State University of New York. She is currently the Vice President for Education for Cortiva Education, Inc.; she oversees nationally the curriculum development and implementation for Cortiva schools of massage therapy. Ms. Schwartz has an extensive background in adult education, massage therapy, and corporate sales and training. She brings all of that experience to her current position and to her extensive volunteer work in the field. For five years she was a commissioner for the Commission of Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA), chairing the Commission for three years. Serving in that role, she assisted in the development of competency standards for the field of massage therapy and served as an expert examiner on many COMTA accreditation site visits. During her tenure as Chair of COMTA, the agency received its initial recognition from the U.S. Department of Education. Ms. Schwartz's national leadership positions have included chairing committees important to the development of the massage therapy profession, including the Scholarship Review Committee for the Massage Therapy Foundation and the Eligibility Committee for the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB). She also chaired the Education Committee for the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA)-AZChapter. Other current national work includes serving on the Education Advisory Committee for the American Spa Expo and as a member of the Academic Consortium for Complimentary and Alternative Health Care. As a member of ACCAHC, Ms. Schwartz chaired the task force for the development of the vision and mission statements and co-chaired the task force on the development of the CAM glossaries. As a massage therapist, Ms. Schwartz specialized in rehabilitation and injury management. She taught those subjects for many years and also taught classes in anatomy and business and ethics.
