Candace Campbell
Candace Campbell was the Executive Director of the American Association for Health Freedom (1994-2003), a nonprofit advocacy organization dedicated to achieving public policies that allow practitioners to use complementary and alternative therapies without fear of recrimination or censure. AAHF members use an integrated approach to health care and advocate for changes in the areas of education, insurance, state and federal regulation and health care practice that allow consumers the greatest freedom of access and choice in the treatment and prevention of disease. Ms. Campbell also served as the Executive Director of the Health Freedom Foundation, which promotes awareness and acceptance of complementary and alternative therapies, and protects the rights of consumers and practitioners to access the full range of therapies. During her tenure, the organizations successfully sued the U.S. Food and Drug Administration five times on First Amendment issues affecting the advertising and sale of dietary supplements. AAHF also played a major role in the crafting and passage of federal legislation that created the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the National Institutes of Health, and in crafting and passage of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act. She served on the Steering Committee for the 2001 National Policy Dialogue to Advance Integrated Health Care: Finding Common Ground and is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Integrated Healthcare Policy Consortium. Prior to her work with AAHF, Ms. Campbell founded and served as President of Campbell & Company, a full-service public relations firm that focused primarily on federal policy issues. She also served as Press Secretary to U.S. Senator Harrison A. Williams, Jr.. Her writing has been published in numerous state and national publications and newspapers.
