IHPC's mission is to articulate and advocate public policy that will ensure all people in the United States have access to the full range of safe and regulated healthcare systems and disciplines in a truly integrated system. As part of this, we direct the national healthcare policy agenda toward health promotion and comprehensive community and public health, in addition to the current focus on disease prevention and illness/injury care. Whenever it is appropriate, IHPC works in collaboration with other like-minded organizations. At times IHPC convenes consensus-seeking meetings to establish policy directions, articulate policy statements that further our mutual goals, and support the enactment of those policies.
We believe that integrated health care has the potential to:
- alleviate the physician shortage that leaves some people without ready access to health care;
- reduce the need for expensive heroic and emergency care by giving greater attention to disease prevention and health promotion; and
- provide people with real choice about the ways in which we attend to our health and health care
